General Accountability and Summary: 

The Underground Health and Safety Coordinator will play a role within the construction management team, tasked with implementing, monitoring, and maintaining health and safety standards in an underground mining environment. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal mining safety regulations, supports safe work practices, and promotes a culture of safety among all underground personnel. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily underground inspections to identify hazards and ensure commpliance with safety regulations.
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and accidents; prepare detailed reports and follow up with corrective actions
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs specific to underground mining operations, including emergency response, confined spaces, and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to assess risks and implement safety improvements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, sate and local mining safety regulations (MSHA, OSHA, or equivalents). 
  • Lead emergency response planning and drills for underground operations.
  • Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for audits and inspections.

Skills & Competencies

  1. Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, or related field
  2. 3-5 years experience in underground mining health and safety roles
  3. Certification in health and safety (e.g., CHST, CSP, CRSP) is highly desirable.
  4. Strong understanding of undergound mining hazards, risk assessments, and safety management systems
